– With five children – and a husband – in the house is there any free time for writing?

“The kids are in school all day long and there are times I am burning the midnight oil all night. I make time to write no matter what.”

– Children’s imagination can be wild. Do your children help you to plot your stories?

“No, I keep them separate from what I write because my stuff tends to be dark sometimes.”

– How long did it take you to publish your first book, after you started trying?

“Six months into my writing career, I met Karen from World Castle publishing and have been going since.”

– Who is your favourite author? Is your writing style similar to theirs?

“I have a lot of favorite authors. Stephen King, Frank Herbert, Anne Rice, Cassandra Clare, Veronica Roth and so many more.”

– Does a book need to be only one genre?

“In my own personal opinion no, I think it makes it more interesting to write cross genre.”

cab98-10622372_10204077649439575_275518434_n

– Tell me about your published books…

“The latest one is SHINE, it’s the story about a girl who falls in love with an angel and what that means for her life. There is a major twist at the end that I think lifts it to a higher level.”

– What are your current projects?

After Dark, book 3 in The Children of Nox series. If you haven’t read the first book in the series you won’t understand what’s going on because this is a continuation story not three standalone books.”

– You own an audiobook company named Empire Voices. Is working with other authors such difficult as it sounds?

“I have not had a single problem working with authors, it’s all about the creative process.”

– Do you have any advice for other writers?

“Read and write every day. It’s like being an athlete or a doctor, you have to always develop what you have.”

BLURB:

I never thought I’d risk my true… my everything, but one mistake can change lives. True love is undeniable… but is it forever?

I knew something was different about Justin Rich. The way his eyes lingered a little longer on places they shouldn’t, his brazenness and suggestive double meanings excited me. I knew I was flirting with danger but I couldn’t seem to stop myself.

True love can make your heart soar. Secrets and lies can break it.

TEASERS

EXCLUSIVE EXCERPT #1

“Look, Courtney, about what I said earlier…”

“It’s okay. Really. You don’t have to apologize. I should have said something…”

“I’m not apologizing.” He reaches me in two strides and places his hand under my chin, forcing me to look up at him. “I meant every word of it. I like you. I like you a lot, Courtney. I just can’t stand by and watch you be with someone who doesn’t…”

“Shh.” I put my hand to his mouth. “Stop.” He shook his head, trying to move my hand. “I don’t know what’s happening right now. Give me some time to sort this out. Okay. Please?”

Justin nodded and then lowered his head to plant a soft kiss on my cheek. When he pulled back his smile was full of understanding and hope before walking out of the front door. Why couldn’t I stop myself from envisioning something more with him.

Oh God. What Am I going to do?

EXCLUSIVE EXCERPT #2

“Did you come like that for him?” Guilt broke through the post orgasmic haze as I focused my eyes on his face. The hurt and arousal taking turns flashing in his eyes. I answer his question honestly, never breaking contact.

“No.”

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

When Gwendolyn Grace is not daydreaming about fictional characters, she tries to be a fairly decent wife and an attentive mother. During the day she manages the office for a small maritime security company that fights pirates, just not the cool Johnny Depp kind. Book Blast: Shine by Joann Buchanan

Title: Shine

Author: Joann Buchanan

Release Date: September 2, 2014

Genre: Paranormal Romance

EXCERPT:

After that, I took the memory card from my camera and put it into the computer to pull up the images. One by one they came up. First were the pictures of the small trees with the beautiful yellow hues of light sparkling behind them. Across the sky, grey clouds formed and rays of light shined through them. I flipped through the photos, taking a quick look at all of them. As I reached the end of the file, I was sure I had imagined everything I had witnessed. Then the last three pictures showed him coming into view. Magical, miraculous, my jaw dropped as I pressed print on the small printer. A lifetime passed while I waited for the printer to finish spitting out the photos. With a sigh, I paced back and forth a little. Waiting wasn’t something I did well.
I looked at the pictures without blinking. I had captured the ray of light with Samuel in it. His body appeared like nothing more than an orb, or could even have been explained away. In the next picture, his body formed, almost ghostly in appearance. Finally, in the last one, Samuel landed on the ground. His wings had disappeared and the man I met was there.
I had seen it happen; it was real. It was proof enough to me that I wasn’t some crazed lunatic. Samuel had come from the sky. Questions still lingered in my mind. What was he doing there? How did I get to my car? There was nothing on the file after the last three images I’d printed. Fear grew inside me the more I thought about what could have happened on the way to my car. I cocouldn’tuite picture it, but I knew Samuel had saved me. I didn’t know what from, and I didn’t know why, but he had. Why couldn’t I remember?

C.E.Hansen ‘Act(s) Accordingly’ in… self-publishing

C.E. Hansen is on her blog tour celebrating the release of her new book, Act Accordingly. Today I have the pleasure to host a blog post of hers. She’s writing about the benefits and challenges of self-publishing in an article which aspiring authors will find inspiring:

“Self-publishing. Sounds simple right?

Write a book, and when you’re done, with a few clicks on your keyboard, you slap it up on Amazon.

Writing a book. Sounds hard right? Where do you start? What is selling? What do people like to read and what do you like to write?

In this author’s humble opinion, it is far easier to write the book.

For me, I sit down, a clean slate in front of me and I let my fingers type what the characters inside my head tell them to. I let my creative juices flow, and with a bit of luck, before I know it, I’m weaving a story, creating memorable characters, building tension, adding some humor, and when I’m finished I have what was once a blank page, that has now morphed into a manuscript. I smile, proud of myself. Have that celebratory drink and give myself a good pat on the back. After all, I’ve just written a book that I’m pretty confident people will want to read. I’ve just got to get it in front of a few people, then they’ll tell two friends, and they’ll tell two friends and… before I know it I’ll have created a fan base. I mean, someone out there has to like it right?

Therein lies the problem. Getting said manuscript in front of those potential readers.

With the ever-growing numbers of self-published writers and books hitting the open market, it is like sitting on top a thimble in the middle of a vast ocean waving your arms in the air. Who sees you? No one.

Unless you have an agent, or a publishing company waiting in the wings, who will take your book and run with it, you are on your own.

Don’t despair; there is a lot of free and really useful information out there to help a new author find their way around the world of self publishing. You just have to look.

Social Media will become your best friend.

It is out there, in the social media universe—Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, Instagram, etc.—that you will begin building your army of readers.

You can, if persistent enough, connect with bloggers and reviewers, who will work hard to promote your book, and if you keep at it long enough, you will eventually find said army of readers.

This is not to say that you will be the next E.L. James, or Stephen King. A lot of it is luck, but you won’t get lucky if you don’t do the work.

Some of pros.

The market has expanded so much you are not restricted by what the ‘traditional’ publishers are looking for. You have the control. You can write about whatever you want, erotica, fantasy, historical fiction…there are so many genres and very few restrictions. But you have to keep in mind if you like writing about birds that eat certain insects, you will narrow your fanbase. You need to be true to yourself, but you also need to be realistic.

Money. The royalties are much more substantial than those you will receive from traditional publishers. You will retain up to 70% of your books’ sale price.

The challenges can be many. At first it can be a bit difficult getting the mechanics right, but once you’ve done it once or twice it becomes a lot easier. Formatting the manuscript, finding a good editor (a must!), getting a good cover. (This is very important, because this is the first thing that catches the readers eye, make it good.)

Getting those reviews. This is the biggest challenge for me. You won’t sell books without reviews. You need to get it out there. Send gifted copies to bloggers (most have a submission page you can fill out), take the bad with the good, you can only learn from your bad reviews.”

One crazy night, one too many champagnes and way too many phone contacts, Nic throws caution to the wind and calls Brendon. To her surprise he comes running.
Game on!

C.E. Hansen is an American writer who wrote her first romance novel at age fourteen when she discovered writing about boys and girls was way easier than actually having a relationship of her own. Since that time, her communication skills haven’t improved, but she likes to think her writing has. After earning an associate’s degree in literature from WC, she worked in a bus company, a law office and a wine/gourmet food shoppe, but she never abandoned writing.
She’s a proud mother of a beautiful daughter, lives in New Jersey with her husband and Maltese Zoe, and if she’s not working on her latest sexy story, you can find her reading, watching cable television, or indulging in her unhealthy addiction to chocolate.
C.E. Hansen’s debut novel IT’S A CRIME was released May 2013, her follow up novel IT’S A SHAME, was released November 11th, 2013.
Her latest, ACT ACCORDINGLY, takes a turn from her normal. Instead of a thriller/suspense, it is a romantic comedy with a healthy injection of spice!

COVER REVEAL: All The Wrong Places, by Rebecca Fisher

Today I welcome to my blog: Author Rebecca Fisher! Her book, All the Wrong Places, has a new cover and we are excited to reveal it!   Synopsis:

In life I had suffered a thousand deaths, and in the midst of death I encountered true life. I had looked in all the wrong places, until there, on a hill of ivy, I was found.”
Driving aimlessly through the stormy suburbs of San Francisco, Casey Wheeler is fleeing from her abusive and unfaithful husband with her five year old daughter Maddy asleep in the backseat.  With nowhere to go and no one to turn to, Casey loses control of her emotions and her car, crashing into a hillside below a mortuary.  Desperately seeking shelter, and more so independence, she finds herself taken in by the mortuary director who apprehensively offers her a job and a place to live.  As she stumbles through the ins and outs of her new and morbid surroundings, Casey is forced into a hostile custody battle with her relentless and increasingly violent husband.  In the midst of all the chaos, she finds a new family and even love in the eccentric and protective people of Golden Oaks Funeral Home.  But just when she has found all she could hope for, she will have to fight to the death to protect it.
This semiautobiographical story of a single-mother and her journey to self-discovery, independence and a true understanding of love will keep readers captivated and yearning for more.

Rebecca Fisher graduated with a B.A. in English and an M.S. in Education, and teaches High School English.  Her own experiences living in a mortuary in Northern California and raising her daughter on her own serve as the inspiration for the many macabre and candid encounters in her novel.  She lives in California with her husband and two daughters.
